R + M 15 Birthday

Questions & Answers about documentary 15th birthday photography & camera shyness.

Clear all your doubts about how we work with documentary photography and video for 15th birthdays: a complete, careful, and spontaneous coverage designed so the birthday girl can enjoy her celebration without spending the night posing or worrying about the camera.

This is the exact profile of the vast majority of the girls who choose us. Our job as specialists in natural 15th birthday photography is to never force anything. We capture the adrenaline, the real hugs, and spontaneous emotions without pressure or uncomfortable poses.

We like to think of photography and video as art. And as in any artistic expression, there is a personal search. In that search, we aim to create images that can convey sensations and feelings, so that when someone looks at them, they can be "transported" back to that special moment. We believe it is essential that you feel identified with our aesthetic and visual approach, as well as our work philosophy. Our documentary coverage has a spontaneous and artistic style.

Great question! There is a growing trend to book photography and video for 15th birthdays further and further in advance. We recommend planning at least 8 to 10 months ahead. But keep in mind that some months are particularly busy for availability, such as March and November.

Ideally, it should be done at least 3 months before the celebration, which means we should start planning and coordinating about 2 months prior to the shoot.

This gives us plenty of time to edit the photos and video, design the guest book, etc.

We also need to consider the weather, avoiding days of extreme heat or cold.

We love coming up with ideas that best represent who you are. Your 15th birthday video will be a cherished memory, and it's wonderful when the production aligns with your personality: we can design it around activities you enjoy, your favorite sport, or simply in a place you love. The more comfortable you feel during the shoot, the more natural and spontaneous the video will turn out.

Don't worry! The most important thing that day is for you to be relaxed and ready to have a good time. We will give you a few simple posing ideas just to get started, but all our focus will be on capturing candid, natural moments so nothing feels forced.

That depends highly on the style of the photoshoot we choose, but we collaborate with a wonderful team of professionals we can recommend for every aspect: wardrobe, makeup, hairstyling, and more.

It depends slightly on the time of year, but generally, we recommend shooting either in the morning (before noon) or in the afternoon, just before sunset. Since the weather forecast can be unpredictable, we always like to play it safe: it's always best to start with plenty of buffer time for any unexpected delays.

We like to start early with the preparations. You will likely be getting ready with your family and perhaps a close friend. Even though you'll already be comfortable with us after the photoshoot experience, starting early helps you get used to the camera's presence. Plus, we get to capture beautiful, intimate photos and videos of these special prep moments. After that, we cover the entire party from start to finish, until the very last guest leaves.

We started documenting weddings in 2011, but we worked in other fields of photography long before that. We began covering 15th birthdays in 2017, as we loved bringing our experience from portrait sessions and parties into this world. Since then, we have documented over 400 events (wow, that number still surprises us!)

Yes, of course! Both on the day of the photoshoot and during the party, we will dedicate a few minutes to take plenty of portraits with your family.

We custom-design each guest book for every birthday girl using the photos from the pre-15 session (which is why it's great to plan ahead). The goal is to have it ready before the party so you can display it in a visible spot for all your guests to leave their messages and wishes 😊

It's also a great idea to make another photo album featuring either just the party photos or a combination of both. Layflat photobooks are, by far, the best way to preserve your memories. It's where the photos look their best, and it's a format you'll want to revisit again and again.

As many as we can! Truly: our selection and editing process is comprehensive. We strive to strike a balance, ensuring no moment is missed while avoiding endless galleries that become tedious to browse. We guarantee a minimum of 500 photos, but there is no maximum limit to what we deliver.

Every single photo we deliver undergoes post-processing, which means we review, adjust, and correct photo-by-photo all technical aspects: white balance, lighting, contrast, saturation, local adjustments, etc.

Additionally, we love creating a black and white version for every photo delivered. This means you will receive two files for each image: the color version and its black and white counterpart.

We typically deliver two films:
- A short highlight film (approx. 3 to 5 minutes).
- A long feature film (approx. 18 to 22 minutes).

The goal of our films is to capture everything that matters, keeping it engaging. We want you to enjoy watching them over and over, complementing the photos with the most powerful aspect of video: the sound.

It depends slightly on the time of year, but typically the photos are ready within 30 days after the party.
