Although some couples start their wedding planning and search by choosing their photographer and videographer before anything else, it’s more common that by the time you decide who will capture everything in photos and video, you’ve already chosen the venue, the ceremony location, and several other details that you surely selected with great care and dedication.
It’s our duty to tell you that you shouldn’t take this task lightly, because the wedding photos and video will be the only things left (aside from the love, of course) from that day. In this case, that phrase you’ve surely heard before applies more than ever: “The party flies by”… the dress will be packed away, the venue flowers will wither, the food will be eaten. The best wedding photographer will be the one who makes all of that eternal. Our memory is inevitably fragile, and the record you keep of that day will be what reminds you of how much fun you had, how delicious everything was, how much you danced, how beautiful the ceremony was, among so many other emotions.

And this applies not only to you, but it will also be a DOCUMENT (yes, in capital letters!) that you can and will want to share with those who couldn’t be there that day, and even more importantly: with future generations (read: children, grandchildren, etc.)
We know that any information we can offer on this topic is “not entirely objective,” but we truly have endless proof and stories showing this is the case: what you are booking in this industry isn’t just a service, it’s MEMORIES… it’s something that will stay with you forever, like a tattoo… and we all know nobody chooses a tattoo on a whim, right?
#1 Explore the different wedding photography STYLES
Photography (and video), like all “art,” is completely subjective and open to appreciation. From our point of view, there are no “good photos” or “bad photos,” but simply photos that you might like or not (well, actually, there ARE some really bad ones, haha!, but that’s not the point of this article). Today, there are many different wedding photography styles: lifestyle, editorial, traditional, romantic, artistic, and the one that is currently trending most: documentary / wedding photojournalism. In this sense, the first major piece of advice we can give you is to search for references on social media, Google them (or ask ChatGPT) about all these styles, see what resonates most with you, and above all, find which one makes you feel most identified. Some photographers combine more than one style in their work, but there will always be one that stands out above the rest.
In 2024, 2025, and now in 2026, more vintage styles have returned to the wedding photography look. Direct flash—something used in the past—made a comeback, and there’s also been a return to film photography (analog photography) to achieve more “timeless” images with a more nostalgic aesthetic.

#2 The FEELING you have with your wedding photographer
Keep in mind that you will be sharing one of the most important—and perhaps stressful—days of your life with this person (or people). They will be accompanying you from very early on when you start getting ready, all the way to the end of the party when they’ll be responsible for taking the final photo. It is incredibly important, then, that you feel comfortable with them, so their presence doesn’t feel like an intrusion but rather brings you peace of mind and good vibes.

Take the time to schedule an interview! This might seem like a minor detail, but since photo and video are areas so filled with subjectivity, it’s really important to get to know the people who will be by your side. This will definitely help you pinpoint the finalist. The “chemistry” built during that meeting is crucial! Beyond using that space to clear up any doubts, it’s an excellent opportunity to “test” how you feel around them. That famous “feeling” can’t be measured any other way than over a cup of coffee, chatting face-to-face (or “screen-to-screen,” in this day and age). Put together a list of questions and concerns, and clear up all your doubts during the interview!
#3 Review the wedding photographer’s full PORTFOLIO (“hone your focus”)
A photographer’s and/or videographer’s online portfolio can be presented in many ways. There are those who prefer to publish “standalone photos” from different events and moments—for example, getting-ready details from one wedding, portraits from another, and dance floor shots from a third.
Then there are those who post a sort of “summary” of each event, showing a few photos from EVERY part of the day, usually in rough chronological order. The important thing here is that you can see material from the SAME wedding, tracking each moment with its changes in setting, action, and lighting.
Neither approach is “better” than the other, but we think it’s important to make this distinction so you can see if you feel comfortable with each “segment” of the material across different moments. Our advice is to choose a photographer/videographer whose work you identify with across the vast majority of situations and moments of the entire wedding day.

#4 EXPERIENCE of the wedding photographer
Nobody is born an expert, and experience “in and of itself” isn’t a guarantee of anything, but do take the time to find out what kind of background the candidates you’re considering have. Wedding photography has some very specific characteristics unique to THIS branch of photography that aren’t shared with almost any other, making the photographer’s track record extremely important. We know many (sad) stories along the lines of: “My photos are being taken by photographer X, who has tons of experience in FASHION (or any other specialty).” We don’t need to tell you how that ends, right? Stick to what you do best!
Have they worked at your venue before? This might be a minor detail if the photographer is highly experienced. However, knowing the layout of the venue, knowing the “secret corners” where the sunset light hits perfectly, and understanding how the dance floor lighting is usually set up can offer a nice little extra peace of mind when choosing your wedding photographer and videographer.

#5 COMMUNICATION
While this point isn’t strictly related to photography, it is important to consider message response times and, above all, their clarity. If a photographer takes a week to respond to a quote request, imagine how long they might take to deliver your finished photos. Efficient communication is a key part of a quality service.
#6 RECOMMENDATIONS from trusted people and online reviews
These days, thanks to the internet, it’s quite easy to get recommendations from people who have already been through the experience. Of course, if you know them personally, even better! But with just a little googling, you’re sure to find firsthand testimonials, comments, and reviews. In fact, there is (or should be) information about this in each photographer’s Google reviews. (This applies to all vendors in every category!)
#7 The wedding photographer’s GEAR
In our case, we believe that “it’s the archer, not the arrow,” but there are some details that are extremely important and often overlooked: What gear do they work with? Do they bring backup equipment on the wedding day? How do they back up the material? Do they have automated backup systems? Normally, these are things that should be taken for granted with any self-respecting professional, but trust us, that’s not always the case 😉
#8 The TEAM behind the photographer (or photography team)
Wedding photography, of course, carries the distinct mark of its creator. An important detail to consider is ensuring the photographer has backup plans in case of any force majeure event (which can happen to anyone). Be sure to ask how their team is structured to anticipate any emergencies, making sure there is always someone (with the same artistic eye) ready to step in if needed.

#9 Wedding photos AND video? / Wedding photos OR video?
Historically, wedding photo and video were treated as an inseparable package deal. Today, that’s no longer strictly the case, as countless professionals specialize in one or the other, and that is wonderful.
This decision is highly personal and subjective, and it’s great to consider all the possible combinations.
For the purpose of this article, in favor of photo + video, we can highlight the following advantages:
a. Having both services centralized with a SINGLE vendor (one contract, one payment, meetings with just one company/person, etc.)
b. Knowing that the team accompanying you is a single unit, which means they already know how to work together seamlessly.
c. The final result will be highly consistent; you ensure that both the photos and the video share the same aesthetic, visual style, and feel.

#10 Price: How much does a wedding photographer cost?
It’s no coincidence that we left this point for last. Of course, price is an incredibly important factor—not just when choosing a wedding photographer, but when choosing anything in life! But returning to the tattoo analogy, we like to view this item as “value” (rather than just “price”)… thinking about it in terms of the “return” on what you are booking.
Are you hiring a service? Yes, of course, but you are also hiring the people who will be by your side on one of the most important days of your life.
Are you paying for digital files? Sure, yes! But THOSE digital files are what will take you back to THAT day, reminding you of the sensations and feelings that swept over you during your wedding day; and not only that, they are the files you will show to your children and all the generations to come. They are a family legacy!
Every time you watch that video or browse through those photos, your mind (and your heart) will drift back to what you experienced that day. We all have, in some corner of our home, that slightly worn, messy little box filled with old photos. Photos of our grandparents, our parents, photos of ourselves when we were kids… images that, at the end of the day, are a DOCUMENT with which we can piece together part of our own history.
And speaking of grandparents, if you are lucky enough to have yours around, that day will be perfect to capture a memory of them filled with emotion, “seeing their granddaughter get married.” Trust us, that photo is priceless… we never tire of seeing examples of this.

Returning to the topic of price, you see where we’re going with this, right?
As Mafalda wisely said, “The urgent doesn’t leave time for the important,” and this phrase applies perfectly to this case: the day-to-day grind of wedding planning, and the sheer volume of decisions that have to be made, sometimes doesn’t leave room to think about these things… If the photos are going to be the memory that stays with you forever, is price really “THAT” critical of a factor in making your decision?
We only hope that after reading these lines, you already have your own answer 🙂 And we’ll take this chance to leave you a link to a post that specifically talks about how much a wedding photographer costs in Argentina.
