Estancia Carabassa – Everything you need to know about this venue.

Are you thinking about planning an outdoor wedding and weighing your options? You’ve surely considered Estancia Carabassa at some point, and if not, you should! In this article, we’ll tell you why 😉

What is the Estancia like?

Estancia Carabassa is located in Pilar, at the Km 56.5 exit of the Acceso Norte, Ramal Pilar, and it is the ideal location if you are thinking of a rustic, outdoor, and laid-back wedding.

It is a large, old house built in 1840, featuring one of the most beautiful gardens where we have ever had the chance to shoot photos (and videos, of course).

It boasts a huge variety of tree species, including some eucalyptus trees over 150 years old. In every space you explore on the estancia, you will find some special detail: whether it is the picturesque stables, the windmills, the gazebos, or its signature water fountain in the area where the guest reception is usually set up.

It is the perfect balance between having your wedding in the middle of the countryside (literally), yet less than 60 minutes from the city center.

It is a space that practically needs no decoration; it is very warm and cozy, although brides generally choose a rustic, “Boho chic,” or traditional country-style setting.

What is the best thing about Carabassa for weddings?

From our point of view, it has many very positive aspects:

The first and most obvious is that it is a beautiful place! It must be one of the places we know where you can enjoy the sunset the most.

In some of the weddings we have documented there, brides have chosen to have their getting ready right there, in the old rooms of the main house, and that is really great. Not just because of the “logistics” (getting ready in the same place where you get married adds a lot!), but also because EVERYTHING at Estancia Carabassa is very picturesque.

The main building is very old and maintains all the original period aesthetics, which gives it enormous visual richness, and we all know how we photographers get in such a beautiful place—we feel like we’re in Disney!

How do you book Estancia Carabassa?

In an informal chat with Vicky Canale, the manager (and owner of the house), she told us plenty of details that you will surely find interesting:

The estancia is rented out in a very practical format: it is available to you from 12 noon until midnight (not “ONE” minute more, according to her own clarification!); and this proposal includes the Party Planner service, parking, cleaning, the tent set up in the courtyard to serve as a dance floor, and the coat check.

From a practical point of view, this arrangement has a very important advantage that is sometimes overlooked, which is that it allows for setting up different party “formats,” for example:

The enormous park that the estancia has allows for setting up the ceremony space in different locations, although there is one in particular that is usually the favorite, in a kind of “eucalyptus avenue.” It is truly a dreamlike place!

A very important detail to consider for those who want to have a Catholic religious ceremony is that the estancia has direct contact with the local parish, so the couple can have their ceremony at Estancia Carabassa itself, which will have exactly the same validity as any ceremony celebrated in a church. (It often happens that it is a requirement to first go to the church with witnesses to do the “official” ceremony there, and then at the venue, only a ring blessing ceremony is held instead of the wedding ceremony itself, so this option offered by Carabassa is a great solution!).

What happens if it rains on the wedding day?  

And yes, of course, when you plan an outdoor wedding at an estancia, you necessarily have to consider that “plan B” in case the weather is not on our side.

As we write this article, we remember the wedding of Manu and Marian that we had the chance to document, where—even though it didn’t rain in the end—there was a threatening forecast that forced the ceremony to be moved.

To our (very pleasant) surprise, the ceremony space had been moved to one of the stables on the property. The result? Simply beautiful: the contrast between the rustic nature of the place and the couple and guests dressed to the nines provided us with images that turned out super original and picturesque.

For the dining moment, there is nothing like setting up long tables that invite sharing under the grove facing the side of the house, around the fountain.

But if that were not possible (due to weather), setting up the tables in the central courtyard of the house is just as picturesque as the other option.

It should come as no surprise that the estancia features a swimming pool. While it doesn’t always play a starring role, at summer weddings it can work perfectly as a dedicated space for kids! (always with a responsible adult in charge, of course). And, let’s be honest, at more than one wedding, the closest friends have made sure the couple takes a dip to end the party in a kind of improvised trash the dress session… 😛

Sunset at Estancia Carabassa

The sunset at Estancia Carabassa deserves a special mention. The sun setting in the West with a completely unobstructed view of the horizon provides us with wonderful images at every wedding we get to cover.

Another great thing about this location is that it has multiple “spots” for portraits. Whenever we can, we like to do a little scouting, and we always end up finding a new hidden corner that invites us to take some photos.

As the sun finally sets, it gives way to a very relaxed atmosphere. The lighting with small fairy lights begins to shine, the fire pits start to glow, the bar begins serving its best drinks, and if you are fans of live music, it’s an unbeatable time to enjoy the last moment in the open air, inviting that band of friends who rock with their songs—who might even start improvising those cumbias toward the end that warm things up for when the party really kicks off.

Where is the dance floor set up?

We have experienced all four dance floor options the estancia offers:

Open-air dance floor, under the trees, both by day and by night

Dance floor in the house courtyard

Dance floor in the tent

Dance floor inside the house on the covered patio

To wrap things up—and much like the classic tale—parties at Estancia Carabassa mean that at 12 o’clock, you turn into a pumpkin (rhyme and all 😝). Midnight is the cutoff time set by the estancia to end the party. It’s an ideal time, by the way, to be able to enjoy the next day, and if you’re still craving more, you’re absolutely in time to head to a club afterward 😉
